Helen M. Neus, 99, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Our House Assisted Living in Austin.
Helen Mildred Bednar was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Austin, the daughter of Benjamin, Sr. and Lottie (Kos) Bednar. She graduated from Austin High School in the class of 1935. In 1938, Helen went to work at the George A. Hormel Company, working in the first Spam line. During her employment, she met Andrew Neus and they were married on June 17, 1939, at Osage, Iowa. A lifelong resident of Austin, Helen was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the ladies circle and activities. Helen’s family was her life; she enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; an infant son; brother, Donald Bednar; and sister, Mildred Bellrichard. Helen is survived by her children: David (Betty) Neus of Austin, Janet Neus of Austin, and James (Lynette) Neus of Maple Grove, Minnesota; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ben (Arlene) Bednar of Austin, and Floyd Bednar of Austin; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service.
