Historical society’s Haymond to present on slavery

Published 7:06 am Sunday, March 19, 2017

The history of slavery spans nearly every culture, nationality, and religion from ancient times to the present day.

However the social, economic, and legal positions of slaves were vastly different in different systems of slavery in different times and places.

Join us at 2 p.m. on Thursday for an International History of Slavery presentation by the Mower County Historical Society’s  John A. Haymond.

Program on estate planning

How much can the cost of probate reduce my estate? What will the government take in taxes? Won’t the nursing home just take everything?

Join attorney Jennifer Gumbel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mower County Senior Center to find out answers to these common questions. Learn ways to minimize costs that can arise upon death, so that your loved ones might avoid unnecessary expenses.

Jennifer Gumbel is an attorney with Hoversten, Johnson, Beckmann & Hovey, LLP in Austin. Jennifer serves clients in the areas of estate planning and probate. She takes a special interest in guiding clients in addressing issues arising when their loved ones pass away and helping them prevent issues from arising in their own estate, especially for farming families locally and international families globally.

Jennifer is a frequent presenter and blogger on the topic, with a passion to inform people on the process of managing and distributing property after a death and how to best organize their affairs to make the process as smooth as possible for their loved ones. She also assists clients in their real estate and business needs, particularly in conjunction with organizing their affairs.

You may not be old now, but if you’re lucky, one day you will be. We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center.

Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and sandwich for 50 cents. Don’t forget Tuesday is hotdish day. We are having tator tot hotdish for only $2. You are always welcome at the center. See you here!
