Marlys O. Spinler, 83, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at St. Mark’s Living in Austin.
Marlys was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, to Palmer and Ora (Hanson) Johnson. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1951. Marlys married Richard E. Spinler on June 6, 1951. She was a secretary for 28 years for H&S Carburetor. Marlys was a very good cook and homemaker. In her spare time she enjoyed needlework, flower gardening and traveling. She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
Marlys is survived by her husband, Richard Spinler, Austin; daughters and sons-in-law, Kerry and Ray Kennemer, Dumas, Texas, and Kara Spinler and her husband Scott Malo, Rochester, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Sue Spinler, Austin; five grandchildren, Carisa (Casy) Blackwell, Julie (Mark) Elston, Matthew Spinler Malo, Michael Spinler Malo and Kyle Spinler; five great-grandchildren, Brittney (Andy) Payne, Emily Blackwell, Tyler Blackwell, Haley Elston and Sara Elston; great-great-grandchildren: Emma Payne and Austyn Payne; sister Hjordes Ebling, Red Wing, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Craig Spinler; parents, Palmer and Ora Johnson; sister, Beverly Swenson; and four brothers, Darrell, David, Marvin and Gayle Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Mark Niethammer officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the mortuary for one hour before the service on Saturday morning.
