The Historic Paramount Theatre is proud to present a race and equity event called “Feeling History:  African Americans’ Reach for Equality” on Saturday, March 11 in two 90-minute sessions: 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The presentation by CLIMB Theatre is deeply interactive and explores America’s history of racism and how it continues to shape the experience of Black Americans.

CLIMB Theatre has been a leader in innovative theatre programs since it was founded in 1977 by executive/artistic director and principal playwright, Peg Wetli. Wetli is an accomplished actor and director, won the YMCA’s Outstanding Achievement in the Arts Award and was named “Woman of Distinction” by KARE 11.

CLIMB Theatre created Feeling History which uses innovative interactive theatre techniques, such as monologues, scenes, slides, music, sound, and pointed interaction, to help audience members understand–intellectually and emotionally–America’s legacy of institutional and individual racism. Feeling History encourages audience members to examine power and privilege, and how they interact to create systemic oppression.

Audience members also explore how inequality and racism came about as a rationalization for slavery and differentiate and define individual racism and institutional racism.

Attendees will sit on the stage with the presenters and participate in experiences. The event is free and open to the public and is appropriate for 7th grade to adult audiences. Seating is limited to 100 people so free tickets will be issued at the ArtWorks Center, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
