Mower County deputies respond to house fire; Smoke seen coming out of house

Mower County deputies and the Brownsdale Fire Department responded to a house fire in Waltham on Wednesday night.
According to Chief Deputy Mark May, deputies arrived at 204 Columbus Avenue at 11:51 p.m. and noticed smoke coming out of the back of the house.
Toby Johnson, 46, who resides at 204 Columbus Avenue, was outside the house when deputies arrived. He said he saw smoke coming from the rear of the house through his bedroom window, prompting him to leave the residence.
The Brownsdale Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames.
There is no damage amount at this time. The state fire marshal was contacted to investigate.
The home’s owner said the property was not insured.
