The Austin boys U18 boys soccer team wrapped up its regular season on a high note as it beat St. Peter 5-0 in Wescott Athletic Complex Wednesday.
Austin (8-2 overall) racked up 16 shots in the win as Sam Bailey and Paul Mueller each scored two goals. Mueller hasn’t been a big scorer for Austin this season, but he was able to help put Austin up 3-0 at the break when he found the net twice in the first half.
“It’s just great. We have such a great team with great sportsmanship,” Mueller said. “There’s nothing better than getting a goal in a win.”
Ojulu Cham added a late goal for Austin, but he did most of his damage by setting up his teammates in the win. Cham was able to help spread the field and set up Austin’s other scorers to keep the offense effective.
“Paul’s been working hard all season and he deserved those two goals,” Cham said. “Wherever the ball is, that’s where he is. I’m always trying to share the ball, because I know I can trust my teammates.”
Victor Velazquez had three saves for Austin and Deng Kuir had one save for Austin, which will now look forward t o postseason play. Cham said Austin has made big strides this summer as it prepares for the playoffs.
“This season has been great and we’ve been improving with every game we played,” Cham said. “We did our best.”
