A 23-year-old Austin man died Sunday in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in Iowa.
Amelvin I. Vincente was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other drivers and a passenger were injured in the crash.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Vincente was driving south on I-35 near Dows, Iowa, about an hour south of Mason City, when his 1999 Nissan pick-up left the roadway and entered the west ditch about 4:40 a.m. Vincente then overcorrected and the vehicle rolled, coming to rest in the righthand lane.
A Ford Eco van, driven by Lynn M. Vadnais, 51, of Stacy, Minnesota, struck the vehicle when she could not see the wreckage due to darkness. The impact pushed the vehicle into the lefthand lane, and into the path of two more vehicles, both passenger cars, driven by Reynaldo Alcala, 43, of Harlingen, Texas, and John Schutt of Littleton, Colorado.
Vadnais and her passenger, Kevin Vadnais, 61, also of Stacy, were taken to Franklin General Hospital in Garner, Iowa, with serious injuries; Schutt was taken to an Iowa Falls, Iowa, hospital with injuries thought to be non-life threatening. Alcala refused treatment and was not transported.
All were wearing seatbelts.
The interstate was closed for four hours following the crash.
