Donald B. Angell, 91, of Elkton, Minnesota, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at The Cedars of Austin.
Don was born March 10, 1926, in Austin, Minnesota, to Howard and Dorothy (Baxter) Angell. He graduated from Austin High School in 1944 and attended a year of college. He met Juanita Johnsen during a youth event at Central Presbyterian Church in Austin and they were united in marriage on Sept. 2, 1950. At an early age, Don took over his family’s farm while his father was injured. Together, Don and Juanita farmed near Austin and later bought a farm near Elkton, Minnesota, which they turned into a productive and innovative farming operation. He retired in the early 1990s, but continued to help out on the farm.
Don was an active member of Dexter United Methodist Church where he served on the board, council and as a trustee. He was also a member of the Rural Youth organization and took trips with the National Young Farmers of America. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, playing cards, visiting and meeting new friends. He and Nita loved spending winters at their second home in Weslaco, Texas. They liked traveling to many countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii and many other places throughout the United States. Don was a great storyteller, he loved to tease, and he was a man that liked to speak his mind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Juanita in 2011.
Don is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Sample, Rochester, Minnesota; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Michelle Angell, Elkton, and Jim and Cathy Angell, Naperville, Illinois; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Duane Olson, Austin; brother and sister-in-law, David and Myrna Angell, Uniontown, Ohio; brother-in-law, Bob Deisting, Eagan, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.
