Lawrence Allen Tucker, 75

Lawrence Allen Tucker, 75, passed peacefully at his home on Aug. 6, 2017, following a valiant four-year battle with cancer.

He was born June 16, 1942, to Glen and Loretta (Lonergan) Tucker in Austin, Minnesota. He grew up in Dexter, Minnesota, and graduated from Elkton (Minnesota) High School in 1961. He graduated from the Austin Vocational School in 1963 where he trained to be a carpenter.

In December 1963, he began his service to his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. He served in active duty in Vietnam, Guam and Midway Island until 1966, then was active in the Naval Reserves from 1979 to 1981, honorably discharging as an E-5. His service to veterans continued as a life time member of the Giese/Kelsey VFW Post 6913, serving as commander of that post from 2014 to 2017, and as a member of the American Legion Post 197 in Chatfield, Minnesota,.

On Oct. 16, 1981, he married Donna Tucker in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. They enjoyed 35 years of marriage, residing in Chatfield.

He worked as a carpenter for the state of Minnesota for 38 years at Rochester Community and Technical College and the university system in Rochester, retiring in 2011. Larry was an active member and trustee of the AFSCME union for many years.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jolyn “Mimi” (Bill) Seamens and Susan (Dan) Hollermann of Chatfield; four grandchildren, William Sieminski of Madison, Wisconsin, Jacob (Rachael) Sieminski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dr. Hannah (Trevor) Cyphers of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Isaac Hollermann of Jamestown, North Dakota; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Amelia Sieminski of Milwaukee; siblings, Harold (Patricia) Tucker of Indianapolis, Indiana, Marilyn Tucker and Raymond Tucker of Dexter, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Ruth Ann Medina of Minneapolis.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at
10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield and on one hour at the church Wednesday before the service.

He will be laid to rest at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota.
