Marlys Willa Golberg, 78, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.
Marlys was born July 27, 1939, in Austin, to William and Leona (Johnson) Skov. Following her graduation from Lyle High School in 1957, she went on to college at Minnesota State University, Mankato to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing. On Aug. 12, 1961, Marlys was united in marriage to Rodney Golberg. Together the couple raised two sons. She was a surgical floor nurse in Louisville, Kentucky, Waverly, Iowa, and Little Falls, Minnesota. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church First Lutheran in Little Falls, a past member of Redeemer Lutheran in Waverly; also, the Waverly Country Club and Mower County Horticultural Society. Marlys enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, knitting, and playing cards. She found great joy in attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and loved spending lake outings and family time on Roosevelt Lake. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Marlys is survived by her sons, Todd Golberg of Eagan, Minnesota, and Bradley (Susan) of Lakeville, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, Caleb, Austin, and Jordan; brother, Roger (Cindy) Skov of Austin; and niece, Julie (Tim) Zaviska of Rosemount, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rodney Golberg; her sister, Shirley Burney; two brothers, Eugene Skov and Stuart Skov; and nephew, Tony Burney.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. The Golberg family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery in rural Austin.
