Nine authors will grace the Austin ArtWorks Festival stage and talk about books, writing and the literary arts on Aug. 26 and 27.

The Authors Stage will take place at Sweet Reads Books and Candy on Main Street.

Sammi Jones got her start in roller derby in 2010 when she joined the Fargo Moorhead Derby Girls. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University Moorhead and has written for a variety of publications. She resides in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area where she works as an assistant editor for a trade magazine and skates for Minneapolis’s North Star Roller Girls.

Chris Norbury is an author and freelance writer whose first novel, “Castle Danger,” was published in 2016. He has written articles on wilderness canoeing for the Boundary Waters Journal and is a contributing editor to the website Brokerage-Review.com. Born and raised in the Twin Cities, he currently lives in Owatonna, Minnesota with his wife and golf clubs.

Sandra Weinrib Stanfield is a licensed colon therapist and certified clinical hypnotherapist practicing in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Many years ago, she had the good fortune to meet and become good friends with Tom D. Hormel, grandson of George A. Hormel. Two years ago, Tom asked Sandy to edit and publish his grandfather’s autobiography, “The Open Road.”

Julie Seedorf is the author of the Fuchsia, Minnesota series, the “Brilliant, Minnesota” series and writes a column for local newspapers. She says, “I am a dreamer and feel blessed to have the opportunity in my writing to pass those dreams on to others.” A wife, mother and grandmother, Seedorf is also a watercolor artist working on an illustrated children’s book series, “Granny’s In Trouble.”

Mary McCarthy grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City and graduated from the University of Kansas. She lives in Rochester with her husband, Jim, and is the mother of three and grandmother of six. McCarthy wrote, “A Pilgrimage of Hope: A Story of Faith and Medicine,” about her ordeal with brain cancer which received the Seal of Approval from the Catholic Writer’s Guild.

Eileen Evans is a historian and author of the biography “Cy Thomson: The Generous Embezzler.” As the title suggests, Evans is fascinated by Thomson’s seemingly contradictory character. The book took its form first as a weekly article in the LeRoy Independent (Mower County Independent).

Judi Bergen has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin. She worked as a therapist in mental health for over forty years. Her short stories have been published in literary journals. “Longing to Belong” is her debut novel. She lives with her husband in Austin, Minnesota, where they have enjoyed raising their three children.

Ricki Walters is an Austin based writer and editor, who has a passion for thrillers, science fiction/fantasy, and middle grade and young adult novels. She is the owner of and editor for RLW Editorial Services, and is a member of the Professional Editors’ Network (PEN).

Lydia Emma Niebuhr began writing more than twenty five years ago while actively engaged in a science-based career. Under the pen name Harriet Ulland, she writes books for young readers, ages 9-12 years, that have action and mystery without violence. The latest, for readers of all ages, is a historical fiction based on the Dakota Conflict in Minnesota.

Artrageous sales

Tickets went on sale on Thursday, July 13, for “Artrageous,” the interactive art and music speed-painting experience coming to the Paramount Theatre as part of the Austin ArtWorks Festival at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26. The show is 2017’s Dick Schindler Celebration Event, presented by Mayo Clinic Health System – Albert Lea and Austin. Artrageous tours nationally and commands ticket prices of $25 to $60. Due to Mayo’s sponsorship, the Aug. 26 show tickets are $14 for adults, $7 for 12 and under, in advance.
