This week’s column is guest written by Belita Schindler.

Who the heck are the  The  St.  Andrews  Sisters?

They are just about the funniest,  most  talented hometown group of performers you have ever seen.

They are appearing at the Historic Paramount  Theatre at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. This is one performance you will not want to miss. Tickets can be purchased at the ArtWorks Center or online  at austinreaarts.org. The tickets are $ 15 in advance and $20 the day of the performance.

This will be a high energy  show, and there will be a few surprise performers …  I wonder who?

Alice Holst, Penny Kinney, and  Coni  Nelson are the  Sisters. They have been singing and spoofing  together  for a long time. This will be their 25th show and their first full-length performance on stage.

It will be highly entertaining for everyone. You will hear melodies such as “Don’t  sit Under the Apple Tree,”  “ Stop in the Name of Love,” and  “The Leader of the Pack.”  But   don’t expect  the normal  lyrics. The Sisters customize the lyrics to suit the occasion, and to suit Reverend Mother.

Sitting down for coffee with them, the conversation was filled with laughter, and you could feel how at ease with each other they are. They were quick to say  that  this is not “Nunsense” and there is no plot, but they do have new habits.

Each of them has created their own character:  Coni is a retired music teacher who lives in Austin with  her husband Paul. Coni is Sister  Mary Cecelia. Alice is a retired bank  manager, and she also lives  in Austin with her husband Al.  She is Sister Mary Jude.  Penny  is retired from Hormel  after 35 years, and now has created Sister Mary Genesius. She lives in Austin with her husband Steven.

The girls feel that performing as The St. Andrew’s Sisters has given them a wonderful way  to deliver  uplifting, hopeful  messages and also a great way to provide fun. And they said I could call them “ girls.”

See you there.
