Richard Boughten, 96

Richard Boughten, 96, of Rose Creek, Minnesota, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Austin.

Richard Vernon Boughten was born Feb. 25, 1921, at Little Falls, Minnesota, the son of Harold and Hatvig (Susalski) Boughten. He was married to Lenora (Babe) Andersen at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Parsonage in 1941. Richard was an auto mechanic and had worked at Cook Motors, Usem’s Chevrolet, Zrucky’s Garage, Don’s Standard Station and Dibble’s Pontiac and Buick, all in Austin.

The Boughtens moved to Rose Creek and Richard served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years as well as Justice of the Peace. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing cards. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra Kilgore; son-in-law, Gary Clancy; grandson, Patrick Kilgore; five sisters; and one brother.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lenora “Babe” Boughten, Rose Creek; children, Beverly (Ed) Rice, Wabasha, Minnesota, Larry (Marie) Boughten, Hugo, Minnesota, Nancy Clancy, High Forest, Minnesota, Robert (Lori) Boughten, Mayer, Minnesota, and Gary (Kim) Boughten, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; son-in-law, Al Kilgore, New Mexico; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty of Burnsville, Minnesota and Irene of Washington; brother, Gerald of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Sept. 20 at Crane Community Chapel with the Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment will be at the Enterprise Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Wednesday.
