A Czech-style dinner is returning in early November to raise funding to support Austin-area veterans groups and VFW-sponsored activities, including Honor Guard.
A fourth Czech It Out Dinner is set for 5-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the VFW Post 1216 Clubroom, 300 Fourth Ave. N.E., in Austin. A limited number of tickets – $20 per ticket – are available now only on a presale basis. No tickets will be sold at the door.
This year’s proceeds once again will support activities sponsored by the Austin VFW, especially the Honor Guard, as well as the Disabled American Veterans and VFW Auxiliary.
Started in 2012, the Czech It Out fundraiser dinner was created by the Ruzek brothers Mike, Dave and Dan – all of Austin – mainly to benefit Mower County veterans with disabilities in honor of their late father, Carl Ruzek, who was a disabled World War II veteran.
About $14,000 has been raised from the previous three Czech It Out dinners mostly for veterans groups and VFW-sponsored activities.
Czech It Out offers a traditional Czech meal of roast pork, potato dumplings, gravy, sauerkraut, corn, kolaches – a Czech pastry – and chocolate cake. This year’s event once again will feature door prizes.
For presale tickets or more information, call the Austin VFW at 433-6039 or VFW Post 1216 commander Scott Wiechmann at 507-396-3394.
