The Austin girls soccer team pushed top-seeded Rochester Lourdes to the brink, but they weren’t able to keep their season alive as the Packers lost 2-1 in a Section 1A quarterfinal game in Rochester Thursday.

The Packers (6-9-1 overall) tied the game at 1-1 when Isabel Leuer scored in the first half, but the Eagles (15-2-1 overall) took the lead for good when they scored their second goal late in the first half.

“We’ve had a saying all year that we have more to give,” Levisen said. “The girls took that to heart tonight and we attacked. Lourdes is a fantastic team, but the girls kept right there with them.”

Myia Hoium made some big saves in net for Austin and the Packers did have some scoring opportunities in the second half, but they weren’t able to cash in.

The game was much closer than regular season meeting between the squads, which Lourdes won 4-0 on Oct. 2.

“Tonight we played with a lot of heart and a lot of chemistry. In the second half we came out with that fire and that heart,” Levisen said. “I’m extremely blessed by this team and proud of this team for what they’ve done this season and what they showed in this section tournament. Our seniors played with fire and that allowed the rest of the team to use that momentum.”
