Austin man accused of knocking out another with beer bottle gets probation

Cham Obang Oman, 22, of Austin was sentenced Thursday in Mower County District Court after pleading guilty June 22 to felony third-degree assault causing substantial bodily harm as part of a plea agreement.
Judge Christa Daily ordered a stay of imposition of a sentence on the felony, giving Oman five years of supervised probation and 100 hours of sentence to service. He has more than 20 conditions of his probation including no alcohol or drugs, no guns, no voting, restitution and completing a chemical assessment and following an evaluation recommendation.
Oman was arrested Dec. 26, 2015, in the early morning after Austin Police saw people fighting outside the Bakery Bar in downtown. Oman struck another man in the head with a beer bottle and kicked the unconscious man on the sidewalk, according to witnesses. He also punched another man in the face, according to the criminal complaint. He was subdued by police using a Taser.
