Flower shop to ‘Petal It Forward’ on Wednesday

If you see Vicki Trimble coming toward you on Wednesday, Oct. 11, open your arms wide.
Chances are she’ll be handing you not one, but two bouquets of flowers.
“One to keep for yourself, and one to give to someone else,” said the owner of The Hardy Geranium, an Austin flower and gift shop.
Trimble and employees will give away 200 bouquets. Recipients could be friends, family — or complete strangers.
It’s all part of a one-day Society of American Florists campaign, begun in 2016, to have people experience the positive impact flowers can have on your outlook.
And, to spread those good feelings.
By the end of the first campaign, flowers had been given away in 234 U.S. cities. The success of the first year prompted this year’s campaign.
“We didn’t really know about it in time last year (when the campaign first started), to participate,” Trimble said.
But given the often-depressing news experienced in recent times, she was more than happy to participate this year.
“Because I think it’s time people learned to be nice to each other,” Trimble said. “We want to spread the ‘nice.’ We are really excited to do this.”
