Laurel M. Carpenter, 75, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Society, Austin.
Laurel M. Overby was born March 4, 1942, in Spring Grove, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Hegge) Overby. She graduated from Austin High School. Laurel made her living as a mail carrier, proudly carrying the distinction of being the first female carrier in Austin in the 1960s. She also worked as a care giver for REM for many years. In her free time, Laurel enjoyed cooking, and spending time with her granddaughters. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Laurel is survived by her daughter, Lori (Scott) Reuter; three granddaughters, Sydney, Madaline, and Isabelle Reuter; her brothers, Carsten “Bud” (Wanda) Overby, Richard (Janet) Overby, and Charles Overby; and her sisters, Marion Lingbeck and Jean Sullivan, all of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mabel Overby; her brother, Paul Overby; her sister, Dolores (Orville) Helle; and brother-in-law, Earl Sullivan.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Deacon John Sullivan officiating.
