ROCHESTER — The Austin boys soccer team earned its first state berth since 2009 when it beat Rochester Lourdes 2-1 in RCTC Tuesday.
The Packers led 2-0 at halftime as Lonyjera Okal connected on a 35-yard free kick and breakaway goal off an assist from Kevin Ortiz.
Austin had lost the Section 1A title game in each of three previous seasons and head coach Jens Levisen was ecstatic to pick up the win after he celebrated a recent birthday.
“It’s like a belated birthday present. It’s wonderful,” Levisen said. “For all of the work these guys put in during practice and all the fun they have in practice, it’s a great reward for them. They truly love the game.”
