Wilderness play home spoiler, top Bruins 4-2

Gino Lucia and the Minnesota Wilderness played spoiler Saturday night, defeated the Austin Bruins in their home opener 4-2 at Riverside Arena.

Lucia scored twice in the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie and leading the Wilderness to the win.

Austin took a 1-0 lead in the second period when he deflected a shot in on the power play at the 6:12 mark. Then, after the Wilderness tied the game with a power play goal of their own, the Bruins’ Travis Kothenbeutel scored on a short-handed break-away goal at 10:12 of the second.

The Wilderness’ Nick Altmann knotted the score once again with a goal at 12:45. That three-goal flurry came with in just over a three minute span.

Alex Schilling took the loss between the pipes stopping 21 shots. The Bruins out-shot the Wilderness 37-25.
