The Austin High School Concert Choir, under the direction of Brian Johnson, will perform today at the Minnesota State Mankato Invitational Choral Festival, only one of two high school choirs selected for the event.
The choir will perform in a concert with a choir from Litchfield High School, as well as the
Minnesota State University Choir in a combined choir finale.
The Austin students, in grades 10-12, will rehearse during the day on campus and then perform at St. Peter and Paul’s Church.
This is the second time the AHS Concert Choir has been invited to perform at this festival.
AHS’ top choir will perform three selections and then three selections with the combined choirs.
The choirs are invited by reputation for excellence, according to Johnson.
“Dr. David Dickau, the director at the university, has asked us several years in a row but the date conflicted with our fall concerts so he changed the date of the festival this year so we could attend,” said Johnson.
Dickau also wrote one of the pieces that the combined choirs are performing, “Afternoon On a Hill.”
