Adrian John Parraza, Jr., 34, of Austin was charged with felony theft – taking/driving a motor vehicle without owner consent and misdemeanor driving after suspension of his license on Tuesday in Mower County District Court.
According to the court complaint, an Austin police officer saw a 2005 Dodge Durango (Minnesota license plate 644JRZ) at 10:33 p.m. Sunday traveling south on Eighth Street Northeast. He ran the license plate, which came back stolen, and attempted to relocate the Durango.
After finding the Durango, the officer followed it until a nearby Sheriff’s deputy could arrive near his location, according to the complaint. When the deputy arrived, the officer initiated a traffic stop in the 500 block of Sixth Avenue Southeast. The driver, Parraza, was arrested without incident.
Parraza’s license came back as suspended, according to the report. The Durango was left at the scene where the owner, a woman from Rochester, picked it up.
A review of Parraza’s criminal record shows prior convictions for assault. He also has an arrest warrant in Olmsted County on charges of felony stalking, felony domestic assault, felony violating a no contact order, and two counts of felony violating a no contact order within 10 years of the first of two or more convictions.
In Minnesota, felony theft of a motor vehicle carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Parraza will appear in court again on Dec. 11.
