A man who assaulted a Mower County Correctional Services agent was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Thursday in Mower County District Court.
Clifton Dale Robinson, 37, of Austin was convicted of felony fifth-degree assault and gross misdemeanor fourth-degree assault-physically assaulting a peace officer on Aug. 16. He was acquitted of another charge of felony fifth-degree assault and felony fourth-degree assault on a probation officer with demonstrable bodily harm.
Judge Kevin Siefken sentenced Robinson for the felony assault charge. He issued no adjudication for the gross misdemeanor charge since it was the lesser charge. He received credit for 170 days served.
Robinson also pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child on Thursday as part of a plea agreement, for which he was sentenced to a year in jail. That sentence will be served concurrently with his prison sentence. Charges of felony domestic assault and felony terroristic threats were dropped in that case.
Robinson was first arrested in April after police were alerted that he had beaten a 16 year-old girl. The girl, who was known to Robinson, said he beat her with a leather belt and an extension cord. The girl had bruises and welts on her body and a three-inch laceration.
Robinson was arrested again in May after a preliminary breath test during a visit to his probation officer showed he had a 0.050 percent alcohol concentration. When the officer told him he would be arrested for drinking alcohol while on probation, Robinson shoved him against the wall, hurting the officer’s back. He then fled the Mower County Justice Center, knocking over two probationers on his way out.
A review of Robinson’s criminal record shows prior convictions for domestic assault in 2015.
