Dominic David Ozuna, 35, of Austin pleaded not guilty to felony domestic assault on Thursday in Mower County District Court. He was charged on Sept. 8.

According to the court complaint, a woman living on the 900 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast told a deputy on Sept. 7 Ozuna had assaulted her earlier that afternoon at his residence in the 18000 block of 540th Avenue in Austin Township.

She reported Ozuna verbally abused her and made several people at his home leave the residence before the assault, according to the complaint. He then pushed her to the floor and placed his hand over her mouth and nose.

He continued to verbally abuse her and punched her jaw and forehead. She then left the residence, saying Ozuna told her not to “call the cops.”

The deputy photographed red marks on her neck and jaw and a bump on her forehead.

The deputies arrested him and brought him to the Mower County Jail.

Ozuna’s criminal history shows two prior convictions for fifth-degree assault.

In Minnesota, felony domestic assault carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Ozuna’s pre-trial is scheduled for Dec. 29.
