Every year, the Nation of Patriots organizes a national effort that pays tribute to, and honors, all of America’s Armed Forces — past, present and fallen. This united effort is known as The Patriot Tour. The Nation of Patriots (NOP) will be completing the 2017 fundraiser for the southern Minnesota area. We were able to raise over $13,000 to assist combat-wounded veterans and their families. Without the support of our communities, we would never have reached this goal.
Through the Veterans Service offices and the Military Order of the Purple Heart, veterans were identified from the southern Minnesota area. They will be recognized for their commitment and sacrifice to our country and our citizens. This year, the Vietnam-era veterans were included in the selection process. At the request of the recipients, the presentations will be done on an individual and private basis.
The Nation of Patriots is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization. It is made of 100 percent volunteers, so all monies raised are returned and distributed to combat-wounded veterans and their families. An American flag is escorted over 100 days throughout 48 states by volunteer motorcycle riders. Las Vegas ranks first in the corporate-sponsored division in fundraising. In the regional awards, Albert Lea was recognized for the second year in a row for the Upper Midwest Region of the United States. More information can be found on the NOP website: www.nationofpatriots.org and through their Facebook page.
NOP is planning to continue the same route again for 2018. The flag will be arriving shortly after Memorial Weekend. Next year, the Albert Lea American Legion Riders Chapter 56 will be carrying on the lead role for the NOP. Please continue to support the Legion Riders and the NOP for 2018.
We sincerely appreciate the personal and corporate donations you have given for our veterans. It has been our privilege to represent southern Minnesota in the national efforts. Special thanks to Bergdale Harley Davidson and the Albert Lea HOG members for their warm welcome and strong support of our nation’s military.
