A woman declined medical assistance after her pick-up truck struck two cows in LeRoy Township Thursday evening.
According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, a deputy responded to the scene of the accident at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday. Karen Start, 68, of Ostrander, was driving eastbound on 115th Street when she saw two cows in the middle of the road. She was unable to stop and struck the cows head-on with her pick-up, which continued to roll into the south ditch, where it struck a tree in the 78000 block of 115th Street. The vehicle was heavily damaged.
The cows were removed from the roadway to prevent further accidents. The cow’s owner, Lucas Grass, said the cows were worth $2,500 each. He said they were carrying fertilized embryos and were insured.
The report did not state if the cows were killed.
