Matthew Carl Maxim Koch, 25, of Austin pleaded not guilty to charges of felony possession of 25 grams or more of methamphetamine-subsequent offense and felony violent felon in possession of a stun gun on Thursday in Mower County District Court.
He was charged with the offenses on Nov. 17.
According to the court complaint, an officer stopped a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica at 7:13 p.m. on Nov. 16 in the 500 block of Eighth Avenue Southeast because there was a search warrant out on the vehicle. The officer made the driver, Koch, exit the vehicle and handcuffed him.
Another officer arrived on the scene with a canine, which alerted officers about the presence of drugs in the Chrysler Pacifica, according to the complaint.
Officers searched the car and allegedly found 38.27 grams of methamphetamine in a back seat cup holder and an electronic stun gun on the side floor. Officers learned Koch had a previous first-degree felony drug charge and was not allowed to be in possession of the stun gun. Koch was then taken to the Mower County Jail.
In Minnesota, felony possession of 25 grams or more of methamphetamine-subsequent offense carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a $500,000 fine, while felony violent felon in possession of a stun gun carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Koch’s pre-trial is scheduled for Jan. 19.
