Sister Barbara Goergen, a member of the Sisters of Saint Francis in Rochester, will celebrate her 50th jubilee in January 2018.

Goergen, the daughter of Herman and Madelain Goergen, both deceased, was born in Austin, and entered the Rochester Franciscan Congregation from St. Augustine Parish, professing her first vows in 1968.

She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the College of St. Teresa, in Winona. She also received her nurse practitioner certification from the University of Texas in San Antonio and a master’s degree in community health from Texas Woman’s University in Houston. Her career was primarily spent working as a nurse practitioner in a variety of different settings for more than 40 years.

Goergen is  retired, but spends time volunteering and is serving on the Leadership Council and Academy Board for the Sisters of Saint Francis.
