Last minute appeal mounted for SA’s Red Kettle campaign

The Austin Salvation Army is mounting a last-minute appeal to the community in hopes of closing the gap between lagging donations and its 2017 goal.
Today, Capt. David Amick is asking residents to participate in “Five for Friday,” in hopes that they will drop a $5 bill into the kettles.
There is good reason: To date, $39,375 has been raised of the hoped-for $105,000 goal. The Red Kettle Campaign is the major fundraiser for the Salvation Army. Proceeds help to pay for a range of services, from housing and emergency disaster assistance, to the community food shelf and youth services, including Christmas presents for kids.
Kettles are located at the doorways of Jim’s Marketplace, Runnings, Sterling Main Street, Walmart (both doors), Shopko (pharmacy door) and Hy-Vee. There are also counter kettles across a number of locations in the city, including convenience stores and restaurants.
Bell ringers are still needed, she said. Between Dec. 18 and Dec. 23, there are still 27 slots left unfilled. To sign up for a two-hour shift, contact Wisemore at 437-4566 or register online at registertoring.com
