Marvin F. Mathwig, 90, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea.

Marvin F. Mathwig was born on June 18, 1927, in Ceylon, Minnesota, the son of Harry and Anna (Schnell) Mathwig. He grew up in Dunnell, Minnesota. He attended country school and graduated from high school in Sherburn, Minnesota. Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in July of 1946. On Dec. 17, 1988, he was united in marriage to Marion Springer at the Little Brown Church. He worked as an engineer/custodian for Austin Public Schools until his retirement. Marvin was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post 404 – Alden. He was a breeder, owner, and exhibitor of the National Sweepstakes Champions of dogs in St. Charles, Missouri.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Marian; two nieces; and two nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; and twin brother.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Father Kurt Farrell will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemen’s organizations. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
