A man who is a suspect in an Albert Lea shooting was arrested on Thursday, along with a woman who is a convicted felon, after their vehicle went into a ditch in Udolpho Township.
Cristian Andres Wilborn, 18, and Patricia Jane Boonreuang, 22, both of Austin, appeared on Tuesday in Mower County District Court.
Wilborn was charged with felony violent felon in possession of a firearm and firearm ammunition and felony third-degree possession of 10 grams or more of a narcotic drug other than heroin. Boonreuang was charged with felony third-degree possession of 10 grams or more of a narcotic drug other than heroin, misdemeanor fourth-degree DWI and misdemeanor driving after suspension of her license.
According to the court complaint, Mower County deputies were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. on Thursday to a vehicle stuck in a ditch near Highway 218 and County Road 26 in Udolpho Township.
When they arrived, they found Wilborn and Boonreuang walking around a 1998 Ford Taurus.
A deputy spoke to Wilborn, who identified himself as someone else because he did not have photo identification, according to the complaint. He was allegedly acting nervous and kept sending and receiving text messages while speaking to the deputy. He claimed a female cousin, who was not on the scene because a friend had picked her up, drove the vehicle.
The deputy then spoke to Boonreuang, who also said a female cousin had driven the car, according to the report. She allegedly slurred her speech and her pupils did not react to light. She then allegedly said she had bought the car from a friend. The deputy offered to call a tow truck and indicated that the tow truck driver would need the keys, at which point she allegedly removed them from her purse.
The deputy then told Boonreuang that he did not believe her story about the car’s driver, according to the complaint. She allegedly admitted to driving the car, despite not having a valid driver’s license, and said she and Wilborn were the only occupants. The deputy then administered four field sobriety tests, two of which she allegedly failed with a third proving inconclusive. Boonreuang allegedly told the deputy she had smoked marijuana with “clear crystals” in it two hours earlier and that she hallucinated when she smoked it. She was then arrested and her purse/bag was searched. The deputy allegedly found two digital scales, three cellphones, an electronic tablet and 12.42 grams of methamphetamine inside the bag. She allegedly denied knowing the drugs were in the bag, but admitted the contents belonged to her.
Deputies allegedly found 14 cell phones inside the vehicle.
Wilborn allegedly denied that anything in the vehicle belonged to him. He was also arrested because the drugs were in close proximity to him.
Another deputy found fresh shoe prints in the snow near the passenger side door, indicating Wilborn had exited the vehicle, walked into the ditch and possibly disposed of something, according to the complaint. He searched the area, but did not find any drugs. He transported Wilborn to the Mower County Jail, where he learned his true identity. Knowing Wilborn was a suspect in an Albert Lea shooting, the deputy then returned to the area with a canine. The canine allegedly located a .380 caliber Taurus pistol about eight feet from the passenger door.
A review of Boonreuang’s criminal history shows a prior conviction for felony drug possession. She is currently on probation. A review of Wilborn’s record shows prior juvenile offenses for assault.
In Minnesota, felony third-degree possession of 10 grams or more of a narcotic drug carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Felony violent felon in possession of a firearm and firearm ammunition each carry maximum penalties of 15 years in prison and a fine of $30,000.
Wilborn and Boonreuang will appear in court again on Jan. 8.
