Jeffrey Michael Novak, 28, of Austin pleaded guilty to felony domestic assault as part of a plea agreement on Monday in Mower County District Court. He initially pleaded not guilty on Sept. 12, 2016.
Police arrested Novak days after officers found a woman who had locked herself in her car in the 300 block of Second Avenue Southwest to protect herself from Novak, who struck her in the face, causing her lip to bleed.
Novak had a prior conviction for assault and violating a harassment restraining order.
Felony domestic assault carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Novak will be sentenced on April 26.
