Unless the Mower County Board of Commissioners decides to break with tradition of rotating the chairmanship, Jerry Reinartz will take on those duties for 2018.
Electing the chairman and vice chairman as well as making committee assignments will lead off the board’s first meeting of the new year at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, in the Mower County Government Center in Austin.
Reinartz represents the county’s 4th District, which encompasses all of Austin’s 3rd Ward. His seat will be on the ballot this fall.
Reinartz will take over for Tim Gabrielson.
Reinartz is in his second term on the board, winning his first term in 2010.
After about 35 years owning Reinartz Appraisals, Reinartz retired in 2013. Before that, he worked as a deputy county assessor for about 10 years.
In other business the board will hold public hearings and vote on whether to:
— allow Michael J. and Shirley D. Adams to subdivide, without platting, by exemption, property in the Freeway Interchange Management District in Section 34, Dexter Township
— rezone parcels owned by Scott Hamand and James and Sheryal Rubin from business to agricultural in Section 14, Frankford Township
— rezone land owned by Troy Cunningham from residential to business in Section 26, Lansing Township
The board will also vote on:
— a county-wide fee schedule for 2018
— designating for 2018 a legals publisher and financial institutions as designated depositories
— reappointing the Mower County health officer
— setting the date for the county Board of Review and Equalization, and
— setting the minimum salary for elected county officials.
