Southland High School students’ entry into this year’s One-Act Play Contest about the juvenile detention system took second place in the Subsection 2 contest on Jan. 27 at Lourdes High School in Rochester.
Stewartville took first in Subsection 2.
Set in a juvenile detention center holding cell, “Juvie” tells the story of teens who have been arrested on a Friday night. Scared and lonely, the teens tell their stories throughout the night of what they did and why they were caught.
The troupe now moves on to section competition Saturday, Feb. 3, at Stewartville High School. The winner of that competition will perform in the Minnesota High School League One Act Play Festival Feb. 8-9 at The O’Shaughnessy at St. Catherine University in St. Paul.
Other subsection results from this region were:
Subsection 1: Rushford-Peterson, first; Fillmore Central, second.
Subsection 2: Stewartville, first, Southland, second.
Subsection 3: Lake City, first, Wabasha-Kellogg, second.
Subsection 4: Triton, first, Cannon Falls, second.
