Alumni Update: Former Packers hitting the track in college

TRACK AND FIELD

Austin grad Carolyn Hackel took fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles for Minnesota State University with a time of 8.94 seconds at the Ted Nelson Classic in Mankato Feb. 3.

Hackel was coming off a strong performance at the MSU Open meet where she took first in the pentathlon, first in the high jump with a height of five feet, nine inches and she took first in the 60-hurdles with a time of 9.04 seconds.

Austin grad Pat Hagan took eighth for the University of Sioux Falls in shot put with a distance of 39 feet, 8.75 inches in the Ted Nelson Classic and he was 19th in the weight throw with a distance of 48-4.

Austin grad Madison Overby took first in the one-mile run with a time of 5:06.53 for the University of North Dakota at the UND Open recently.

Austin grad Amber Hansen took eighth in the discus with a distance of 129 feet, seven inches and she finished sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 49 feet, 2.25 inches for the Fighting Hawks at the UND Open.

BASKETBALL

Austin grad Zach Wessels had 10 points with two rebounds and two assists while going three-for-three from the field in an 80-59 win for the University of Sioux Falls over Minot State Feb. 3.

Austin grad Tom Aase played two minutes in the win.

The Cougars are 16-8 overall and have won three in a row.

Austin grad Gach Gach had five points, two rebounds and one assist for West Texas A & M as it beat UT Permain Basin 105-86 Jan 30. The Buffs are 20-2 overall on the season.

Austin grad Bret Lukes had five points and two rebounds for Hamline University in a 98-88 win over Malacaster Feb. 5. The Pipers are 11-11 overall.

Austin grad Oman Oman had 10 points and six rebounds for North Dakota State College of Science in a 72-70 loss to Dawson Feb. 5.

NDSCS is 20-5 overall on the season.

Southland grad James Landherr is averaging 4.9 points and .9 rebounds per game and LeRoy-Ostrander grad Josh Royston is averaging 2.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game this season at Riverland Community College.

Blooming Prairie grad Taylor Hagen had four points and eight rebounds in a 71-63 loss for Northern Iowa against Southern Illinois Feb. 4.

The Panthers are 11-11 overall on the season.

GYMNASTICS

Austin grad Maddie Mullenbach had a career-high score of 9.425 to take tenth on the vault and she posted a career best score of 9.450 to take sixth on the beam for UW-Stout as the Blue Devils lost to Hamline 186.150-184.525 Feb. 2.
