Man allegedly punches woman in the face

Elijah Joel Beckman, 30, of Rochester was charged on Wednesday in Mower County District Court with felony domestic assault.

According to the court complaint, a Mower County deputy responded to a domestic assault call at 8:20 p.m. on Dec. 23. in the 100 block of Harrison Avenue Northeast in Racine.

A woman at the residence said Beckman had punched her in the face and had left the scene with his mother.

She told the deputy he had arrived at the residence earlier in the day and got angry because she was upset he was leaving, according to the complaint. He allegedly postured like he was going to hit her and she grabbed a pipe to defend herself. She said the next thing she remembered was being on the floor with Beckman telling her he was “sorry.” She said she “saw stars” and put ice on a lump on her face. Beckman allegedly took her cell phone and she called 911 from an old phone.

The deputy observed a large bruised lump around her left eye, according to the report. A warrant was issued for Beckman’s arrest.

A review of Beckman’s criminal history shows numerous prior convictions for criminal damage to property, fleeing a peace officer, financial transaction card fraud, theft, assault, and violating an order of protection.

Beckman will appear in court again on Feb. 8.
