With Easter Sunday just around the corner, take advantage of these Lent and Easter celebrations.

 

Knights of Columbus Fish Fry

The Knights of Columbus will have their last Lenten fish fry for the year this Friday.

Patrons can dine on fried fish and a full salad bar; broiled fish is also available to those who want a healthier option.

The meal costs $8 for adults and $6 for kids aged 4-12. Children ages 3 and under eat for free.

The fish fry will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday at Knights of Columbus Hall, 211 First St. SE.

Westminster Presbyterian Church annual Easter Event

Westminster Presbyterian Church will host its annual Easter event on Saturday.

The church has been holding this event for over 20 years, drawing an average of 300 visitors per year.

This year’s free event will feature snacks, games and entertainment by Jim Jayes, all in a carnival-style setting.

There will be a telling of the Easter story, followed by an Easter egg hunt.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The event will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 802 Fourth St. SW.

19th annual Free Community Easter Dinner

Christ Episcopal Church will serve its annual free community dinner on Easter Sunday.

Started in 2000 to feed the less fortunate and those who are alone for Easter, this year’s meal will feature ham and various side dishes.

The free community Easter dinner will be served from noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday at Christ Episcopal Church, 301 Third Ave. NW. Reservations are required so they are aware of how much to prepare.

Friday

• ArtWorks Open Jam Session, 7-9 p.m. at the Austin ArtWorks Center. The house band sets up and hosts the event. Players bring their guitars, basses, horns, sticks, keyboards, washboards, etc, and singers and songwriters bring themselves, their words, and their voices. The house band will ‘back’ individual jammers, and allow for groups of jammers to get up and play.  ArtRocks events are open to friends and family members of jammers, as well as the public. • Book Art – Flip Books, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Austin Public Library. For all ages. Meet in the Austin Public Library programming room. For more information, call 507-433-2391.

• Kids’ Studio – Hamsa Trinket Dish, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Austin ArtWorks Center. With Beth Hamilton. For kids ages 4 to 14; cost $5. For more information or to sign up, call 507-434-0934.

• Book Art for Teens/Adults – Sewn Long Stitch Pocket Book, noon to 2 p.m. at the Austin Public Library. Limited space – to sign up or for more information, call 507-433-2391.

• Tech Tutor Time, 1-2 p.m. at the Austin Public Library. Basic one-on-one computer tutoring provided for such things as setting up and using email, using web browsers, working in Google Docs or MS Word, searching the library’s collection, downloading eBooks, and assisting with projects in progress.
