Alberta A. “Bert” Jochumsen, 62

Alberta A. “Bert” Jochumsen, 62, of Rush City, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Alberta Ann Stoddard was born Jan. 9, 1956, in Fort Carson, Colorado, the daughter of Samuel and Jo (Thomas) Stoddard. She grew up in Littleton, Colorado, and attended Littleton High School. After high school, Alberta enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Vietnam War beginning in August 1974. She continued to proudly serve her country until her honorable discharge in September 1982. Alberta met Kevin Jochumsen at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. They were married on Jan. 22, 1981. Together, the couple raised four children. She held various jobs over the years, including at Walgreens in Cambridge, Minnesota, as a clerk. While living in Austin, she was inducted into the Mower County USBC Hall of Fame for bowling. Most recently, Alberta lived in Rush City. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include her husband, Kevin Jochumsen of Rush City; children, Thomas (Denise) Quates of Poth, Texas, Krystal (Adrian) Merfeld of Austin, Kurt Jochumsen of Austin, and Katherine Jochumsen of Lake Mills, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Mathew, Aidan, Savanna, Micheal, Logan, Kelli, Daniel, and Kolby; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Monica (Edward) Amarille of Poth; in-laws, Robert and LaRayne Jochumsen; brothers, Alfred (Tina) Stoddard of Anchorage, Alaska, and Chris Stoddard of Eagle River, Alaska; sisters, Diana (Steven) Withem of Marshfield, Massachusetts, Dee (Jim) Schneider of Firestone, Colorado, and Joyce Gallagher of Longmont, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Kellee Jochumsen of Austin, KaLyn Ellis of Seattle, Washington, and Karyn (Lee Dority) Nelson of Austin; and brothers-in-law, Kendahl Jochumsen of Rochester, Minnesota, and Kerry (Katie) Jochumsen of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Jo Stoddard.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Karen Behling officiating. The Jochumsen family will greet friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
