Best Bets: Austin hosting 44th Home and Vacation Show

The 44th annual Austin Home and Vacation Show will be held this weekend at Packer Arena.

Sponsored by Power 96 Classic Rock/KQPR, the Home and Vacation Show will feature 120 exhibitor booths representing area businesses and organizations. Exhibitors include the Austin Daily Herald, Budget Exteriors, City of Austin, Folie Roofing, Hometown Sears of Austin, Midwest Duct Work, Rochester City Lines and The Evergreens, among many others.

There will be activities for children in the Kids Corner, including the Austin Jaycee’s trout fishing tank and an activity room sponsored by Crayola Experience and the Boy and Girl Scouts. Austin law enforcement will be doing kids IDs on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendees can register to win over $13,000 in prizes. New prizes will be given out each day, including dinner and a show for two at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, an eight-foot Sport Craft pool table, a Mall of America family fun pack, tickets to the July 7 Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert at the Target Center and a Breezy Point Vacation for two.

There will also be prize drawings at the exhibitor booths.

The 44th annual Austin Home and Vacation Show will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Packer Arena. There is a $1 admission fee. Kids aged 12 and under are free.

• Fish Fry, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Hall, 211 First St. SE. Adults $8, ages 4-12 $6, 3 and under free. Full bar. Broiled fish available too.

Saturday

• Parenting Seminar – Gist: The Essentials of Raising Life-Ready Kids, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Faith Church. Psychologist and speaker Michael Anderson, will be speaking on an effective, efficient and enjoyable new way to think about parenting. Cost is $10. • Tech Tutor Time, 1-2 p.m. at the Austin Public Library.
