Minnesota chef, author and television host Amy Thielen will be presenting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, at the Hormel Historic Home for this year’s Austin Page Turners’ City Wide Reading Event.
The event is made possible with funds from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and the people of Minnesota for Library Legacy activities.
A native of Park Rapids, Minnesota, Thielen was the host of the Food Network’s James Beard Award-nominated “Heartland Table” and author of the James Beard Award-winning cookbook “The New Midwestern Table” and memoir “Give a Girl a Knife.” The latter, based on her experiences working as a chef in New York City, was selected for this year’s Austin Page Turners’ City Wide Reading Event.
Thielen also writes about food for magazines and newspapers and has been featured in “People,” “Food Network Magazine,” “Oprah Magazine,” and “Country Living,” among others. She, her husband, Aaron, and their son live in rural Park Rapids.
During her day in Austin, Thielen will conduct a writer’s workshop at 10-11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Austin Public Library and will also visit with Austin High School students in the afternoon.
Anyone interested in attending the workshop may call the Austin Public Library at 507-433-2391 or email cwyant@selco.info.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Hormel Historic Home with refreshments served prior to the presentation.
A book signing will follow the presentation.
