Michael Hullopeter was sworn in as the newest officer of the Austin Police Department on Tuesday. His badge number is 125.
Administrative Services Director Tom Dankert administered the oath to Hullopeter in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
“I’m looking forward to getting into the job and doing what I can to support the community and help out,” Hullopeter said.
Hullopeter graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in law enforcement. He worked part-time with the New Richland Police Department before coming to Austin.
“I came from a small town and you always saw the officer out and about talking to kids after school and just being around,” he said. “It had the impact on me that it was an important job that I want to be a part of.”
Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said the addition of Hullopeter brings the APD’s officer strength to 34.
