Austin Public Schools has announced that Jennifer Lawhead has accepted the position of Director of Community Education at the Austin Community Learning Center.
She will fill the vacancy left by Amy Baskins, who is retiring from the position.
Lawhead spent four years as the executive director of Austin Aspires, a local nonprofit whose mission is to improve educational outcomes for all students in Austin. She also served as the Gifted Services Coordinator at Rochester Public Schools in addition to teaching in Austin, Rochester, and the Twin Cities.
She holds a master’s degree in elementary education and teaching in addition to a K-12 administration license,
“Replacing Amy Baskin at the CLC is a tall order,” said Superintendent of Schools David Krenz, “but we believe that under Jennifer’s leadership, the program can continue to develop at the high level Austin has come to expect.”
Lawhead will oversee the Community Learning Center, including Austin Adult Learning, Community Education, Early Childhood Family Education, Early Childhood Special Education, the Kids Korner program, and more.
