Travis Jon Hatfield, 25, of Austin was charged on Friday in Mower County District Court with felony third-degree assault-substantial bodily harm.
According to the court complaint, officers responded to a call of property damage on March 29 in the 1500 block of Fourth Avenue Northwest. They met with a woman who had her arm in a sling. During the discussion about the property damage, the woman allegedly said she was the victim of repeated abuse from Hatfield.
She told police that she was wearing a sling because she broke her collarbone after getting into an argument with Hatfield 0n Feb. 20 at a residence in the 400 block of Second Street Southwest. She said Hatfield tried to physically throw her out of the residence and was allegedly dragging her down the stairs when she grabbed hold of the railing. He allegedly continued to pull her hard and her collarbone snapped.
A neighbor called the police concerning noise coming from the residence, according to the complaint. Hatfield and the woman talked to police, but said the argument did not turn physical. She said she did not tell the police because she was scared. She went to the hospital later that day and received an x-ray, which showed the collarbone was broken.
A review of Hatfield’s criminal record shows a prior conviction for theft and domestic assault.
Hatfield will appear in court again on April 26.
