Man arrested after allegedly chasing woman in vehicle

Carl Edward Bailey, 36, of Austin was arrested on Thursday and is currently awaiting possible charges of felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor domestic assault.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, dispatch received a call of a rolling domestic situation at about 4:33 p.m. on Thursday. The woman who called said she was driving with two children, ages 6 and 3, and was being chased by Bailey in a white pick-up truck. She said he initially would not let her leave their residence, but was able to get away.

Bailey allegedly attempted to cut her off on 18th Avenue Northwest and get her out of the vehicle. Another attempt occurred on Fourth Street Northwest. At one point, he allegedly struck her vehicle.

Bailey was able to get in front of her on First Drive Northwest, exited his truck and started banging on her window, according to Krueger. The woman did not roll down the window and was able to drive past him when he got back into the truck. She pulled her vehicle into the Wells Fargo parking lot and officers stopped Bailey as he tried to drive away on First Drive Northwest.

The case has been forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
