Man pleads guilty to heroin sale

Diontae Emory Dowdell, 33, of Austin pleaded guilty to felony third-degree sales of a narcotic as part of a plea agreement on Tuesday in Mower County District Court. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charge on Oct. 12.

A confidential informant arranged to purchase heroin from Dowdell on Aug. 30. Narcotics officers gave the informant buy money and an audio transmitter.

The informant met with Dowdell at a residence in the 800 block of 10th Avenue Southwest and gave him the money. A convicted drug dealer, Jordan Tashawn Travis, arrived at the residence 30 minutes later with the heroin. Dowdell gave him the informant’s money.

The informant met with police at a predetermined location and surrendered .69 grams of heroin.

At the time of the incident, Dowdell was on pretrial release for two charges of felony fifth-degree drug possession.

A review of Dowdell’s criminal record shows a prior conviction for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Dowdell will be sentenced on June 15.
