Young people interested in developing life skills, volunteering in the community and looking for new, fun ways to learn are encouraged to attend a 4-H 101 Open House from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Mower County 4-H Building at the county fairgrounds.
Youth from kindergarten to one year past high school are invited to attend and learn about opportunities available in the 4-H program.
Mower County 4-H ambassadors, the organization’s 4-H youth leaders, will host the event. Those attending will be able to stop by various booths to learn various aspects of the program. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy ice cream sundaes and register for door prizes.
The 4-H learn-by-doing, hands-on model offers a wide variety of research-based and youth development programs ranging from photography, cooking and raising livestock, to learning about STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) through robotics and more. Members learn problem-solving, decision-making, coping and communication that helps prepare them for the future.
