Young people with an interest in developing life skills, volunteering in the community and looking for new, fun ways to learn are encouraged to attend an upcoming 4-H 101 Open House.
The open house will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at the Mower County 4-H Building at the fairgrounds.
The Mower County 4-H ambassadors, the organization’s youth leaders, are hosting this event for any youth in kindergarden through one year past high school to come learn more about the opportunities available in the 4-H program.
Prospective, as well as current, members are encouraged to attend. 4-H’s learn-by-doing model offers a wide variety of research-based and youth development programs ranging from photography, cooking and raising livestock, to learning about STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) through robotics and more.
This model encourages hands-on learning to help youth obtain essential life skills such as problem solving, decision making, coping and communicating that helps prepare them for school, college, community and careers. 4-H clubs meet at different locations all over Mower County.
During the open house, attendees will be able to learn more about the program by stopping by the various booths. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy an ice cream sundae and register for door prizes.
