Armed robber holds up Apollo No. 3 convenience store

Police are seeking a suspect who robbed the Apollo No. 3 on Sunday night.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, police responded to an armed robbery call at 9:08 p.m. on Sunday at the Apollo No. 3 in the 3000 block of West Oakland Avenue.

According to the complaint, a clerk reported that a black male, about 5-foot-8-inches with an average to slender build and dressed in a black sweatshirt with the hood up, black pants, dark colored gloves and a black bandana or scarf covering his face entered the store. The clerk said he waved a silver handgun and demanded money from the safe. The clerk opened the safe and the robber grabbed one blue bag of money and an undisclosed amount of cash from the register before leaving. The clerk said he thought he saw the suspect flee on the bike.

Police found a bicycle in a field in the 2900 block of West Oakland Avenue, according to Krueger. A canine was brought in and detected a scent headed in a southeast direction, but soon lost it.

It is unknown if the suspect was one of two individuals involved in a May 4 armed robbery at the Freedom Valu Center on Fourth Street Northwest.
