Mower County Commissioners on Tuesday granted bids on five road projects scheduled for this year, totaling $2.4 million.
Bids only surpassed estimates in one of the five projects, according to figures reviewed by Public Works Director Mike Hanson. Funding for the projects was helped, in part, with low bids brought in on initial road project bidding earlier this spring, freeing up funds for additional projects.
The most recent projects include:
•CSAH 5 (140th Street) from west county line to TH 105 in Lyle Township, $438,409.53, Ulland Bros, 7.45 percent under estimate. Overlay and aggregate shoulders.
• County Road 51 (1.49 mile stretch) in Austin Township, $257,846.29, Ulland Bros., 28.53 percent under estimate; mill surface and overlay.
• CSAH 28 (195th Street) from TH 105 to TH 218 (550th Avenue) in Austin Township, $419,972.90, Rochester Sand and Gravel, 15.72 percent under estimate. Overlay and aggregate shoulders
• CSAH 4 (160th Street), one half mile west of CSAH 7 in Marshall Township, $550,119.97, Midwest Contracting, LLC, 5.85 percent over estimate. Bridge removal, concrete box culverts, grading and aggregate surface.
• CSAH 25 (540th Avenue) between 262nd Street and CSAH 2 in Lansing Township, $813, 601.50, 14.74 percent under estimate. Pavement, erosion control, turf.
In other business last week, the commissioners:
• Conditional use permits: Granted conditional use permits to Kevin and Jill Sathre for an extended home operation as they establish the manufacture of maple syrup and related projects in their rural home.
The commissioners also approved a CUP for Ryan and Amanda Rubin for a shop on their property for a heating and cooling business.
Both permit holders must adhere to conditions outlined by the planning and zoning department.
• Tax abatements: Approved tax abatements on new home construction for Ronald and Beverly Frank, in Lyle; and Adam McNeely in Nevada Township.
