Dennis B. Olson, 75, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Grand Meadow Health Care Center.

He was born April 19, 1943, in Rochester, Minnesota, the son of Bernard and Judith (Lee) Olson. Following his 1961 graduation from Austin High School, Dennis attended the Austin Area Vo-Tech where he was trained as a machinist. On Feb. 15, 1969, Dennis married Arletta (Sweazey) Miner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple had one daughter and later divorced. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Nov. 11, 1963, and served his country until his honorable discharge on Nov. 11, 1967. For 26 years, Dennis made his living as a firefighter in Austin where he was a lifelong resident and member of Grace Lutheran Church. For 11 years, Dennis was the primary daycare provider for his granddaughter, Janae. He loved the outdoors and spent much of his leisure time hunting and fishing. His favorite music was bluegrass. Dennis will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to the community and to his country. His family will miss him dearly.

Dennis is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Frank) Soucek of Austin; his stepson, Scott (Lynn) Miner of Milton, Georgia; four grandchildren, Janae White and Ryan Soucek, and Katy and Andrew Miner; and his sister, Carolyn (Wade) Nelson of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Terry and Roger Olson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Chaplain Carol Shaffer officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at Worlein Funeral Home. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 at Grandview Cemetery following the service.
